Connect a WordPress site
Updated · 2 min read · By The ParSEO team
The short answer
A WordPress site connects to ParSEO through ParSEO Edge: a few one-time records at your domain company, with no plugin and no change to your WordPress settings. Approved fixes then go into your pages as they're served. ParSEO's direct WordPress plugin route is built but not yet in the app's connect screen.
Key points
- No plugin is needed: ParSEO Edge works in front of your site.
- Your theme, plugins, Yoast SEO and Rank Math settings aren't touched.
- The records go where your domain's DNS is managed, which may not be your WordPress host.
- Every fix can be undone for 14 days.
Step by step
Open Publishing
In ParSEO, open Settings, then Connectors, and press Set up ParSEO Edge in the Publishing card.
Find where your DNS lives
Log in where your domain's DNS records are managed. That's often the company you bought the domain from, and sometimes your WordPress host.
Add the proof records
Add the TXT records ParSEO shows. ParSEO checks for them by itself.
Point www
Once the certificate is ready, change your www record to the CNAME value ParSEO shows.
Approve a fix
When the card shows Live, approve a fix and watch it go live.
What changes on WordPress
Nothing inside WordPress. ParSEO Edge fetches each page from your host and puts in the fixes you approved as the page is served. If you'd rather make a change yourself, each fix also comes with steps for WordPress: for a title and description, "Yoast SEO: edit the page, then SEO title and Meta description in the Yoast box", or "Rank Math: Edit Snippet".
The ParSEO Companion plugin
ParSEO has a WordPress plugin, ParSEO Companion, for a direct route that writes into WordPress itself with an application password. That route is built into ParSEO's publishing engine but isn't in the app's connect screen yet. See ParSEO for WordPress sites for what it does.
Undo
Every fix can be undone from ParSEO for 14 days. To take ParSEO Edge out completely, set your www record back to the value ParSEO shows; your site returns to how it was, usually within minutes.
Questions people ask
My WordPress host manages my DNS. Is that fine?
Yes. Add the records wherever your domain's DNS records are managed, whether that's your host or the company you bought the domain from.
Do I need to deactivate Yoast SEO or Rank Math?
No. Keep them. ParSEO Edge doesn't change their settings.
